Yes, the initial cost of brick is more but after a couple of years and depending on how much mulch you buy yearly, brick chips have not only paid for themselves but are leaving extra money in your pocket that you would have spent on mulch. We also sell woven plastic matting that  we encourage people to put down as a barrier between the dirt and the brick.  For example 1 square foot at 1 1/2" thick = 15 lbs.= $.60
